Cultural Humility Training for Educators
Base Offering: 2-Day Training
Facilitators: Jade Ecobichon-Gray & Joel Dunn
Audience: Teaching and support staff (non-leadership)
Format: In-person or online (same rate, unless significant travel is involved)
Why Cultural Humility in Education?
Cultural humility is an ongoing process of self-reflection, self-critique, and active engagement in learning from others. Unlike cultural competency, which often implies a finite level of knowledge to be mastered, cultural humility recognises that we are never truly done learning about culture, power, and identity.
In the context of education, cultural humility is essential. Schools are microcosms of society — rich with diverse identities, backgrounds, and experiences. When educators cultivate cultural humility, they create safer, more inclusive learning environments where all students feel seen, valued, and supported.
This is especially critical in addressing disparities, improving relationships, and challenging systemic inequities that disproportionately affect marginalised groups.
What The Training Offers
This two-day experience is designed to move educators from awareness to action through an accessible, human-centred approach. Grounded in co-authored research and tailored to the school context, the training will:
- Introduce key concepts of culture, identity, and intersectionality within education
- Explore the distinctions between cultural competence and cultural humility, and how a blended approach supports school improvement
- Examine how bias, power, and privilege can show up in classroom practice, behaviour management, curriculum, and school culture
- Equip educators with practical tools and strategies to enhance equity, foster active allyship, and build inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments

Participant Feedback
Given that this is a serious topic to discuss I thought Jade not only handled it brilliantly but she did so well at getting us all discussing all of the topics throughout the day. I have recommended more of my colleagues do this course as I think it's super beneficial.Attendee - DK Publishing
It felt like a non-judgemental, safe space where we could speak freely and honestly, which was so important given that we were discussing sensitive topics where people might otherwise have worried about saying the "wrong" thing. I've come away from it with lots of new insights about culture, DE&I, privilege and allyship and will do my best to put those into practice in my day to day working life.Attendee - DK Publishing
For me personally I would've loved more time, it left me wanting more, but in the best way possible. A 2-day course would be great.Attendee - Newham Council
